This weekend, I met and welcomed hundreds of families and supporters at Parliament Hill to conclude their Next Step Autism March, where they traveled over 20km on foot from Barrhaven to the steps of Centre Block, advocating for a National Autism Strategy.
For many of these families, supporting their kids means remortgaging their homes to afford the care their children need, or quitting their jobs to take care of their children full-time. It was so inspiring to see the commitment and dedication of so many from the community.
Thank you Kerry Monaghan and Sarah Evans from The Next Step Autism March for inviting me. It was an honour to partake in this important event alongside so many dedicated activists and supporters.

Today I joined with fellow MPs and supporters during the 7th Annual Autism on the Hill event.
I fully support developing a National Autism Strategy.
The latest statistics show that 1 in 68 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). As a government, we recognize the unique challenges faced by Canadians with autism and their caretakers, that's why we want to do what we can to help.
We're investing $9.1 million in community-based projects to better meet families’ needs, $10 million for a National Resource and Exchange Network for reliable and evidence-based autism information, resources & services; and, over $42 million towards research to improve understanding and treatment of autism.
