Bill C-305 passed third reading in the Senate, paving the way to Royal Assent.
On October 18th, my Private Members’ Bill C-305 passed third reading in the Senate, paving the way to Royal Assent.
Usually, only 5% of the Private Members Bill (PMB) proposed will ever become law. Now with my PMB, section 430 of the Criminal Code will be strengthened to protect community spaces and recognize that hate motivated by bias based on gender identity and sexual orientation would carry the same weight as crimes committed against religion, race, colour, national or ethnic origin.
In a multicultural country like Canada, there should be no tolerance for hate. Bill C-305 takes a strong step towards making our neighbourhoods and communities safer places to live.
I’d like to thank Senator Marc Gold for his work to help this Bill become law, and all the groups who supported C-305 from its inception more than a year ago.
